Canon: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Character: Kyoko Sasagawa
Timeline: Offscreen after chapter 392
Personality:
Kyoko can accurately be described as a ray of sunshine.
Background:
Kyoko Sasagawa comes from a normal father and a normal mother, and has an older brother that is just a little abnormal. She herself lives a relatively normal life up until middle school - but there is one elementary school incident worth noticing: junior high school students, having a bone to pick with Ryohei (her brother), kidnaps and takes Kyoko as a hostage, leading to Ryohei's forehead scar and Kyoko's fear for her brother fighting. Kyoko blames herself for being helpless and allowing this incident to happen, and Ryohei promises not to fight anymore - with exception to necessary fights. This is the only canonical pre-middle school memory.

In middle school, Kyoko is considered (by the protagonist, Tsunayoshi Sawada), the "school idol" and most popular girl in the school. She serves mostly as a tool of inspiration (Tsunayoshi's only reason for going to school is to see Kyoko) in the first arc, although she is also caught up in Tsuna's and his tutor and arcobaleno Reborn's antics, even becoming a victim of the Dying Will Bullet and breaking many things in Tsunayoshi's house to get his mother to apologize for calling her son "no-good". (Incidentally, it is because of Tsuna's first stunt - running to school in his boxers while trying to confess to Kyoko with his "dying will" while naked - that causes the two to gain a more intimate relationship as "friends" instead of "classmates".) Additionally, during this period, she befriends Reborn, the one-year old hitman tutor, I-pin, the five year old Chinese assassin, and Haru Miura, a student of an all-girl's school who develops a crush on Tsuna; Kyoko becomes friends with Haru due to a mutual taste in cakes and coincidentally having the same "cake day" - a day in the month (the third Sunday) wherein both girls will buy as many cakes as they want, whilst being reserved at any other time. In the Kokuyo arc, Ryohei Sasagawa is hospitalized, and Kyoko is left to worry for him. She watches over him often, presumably throughout the entire arc, and also becomes a potential victim to one of the antagonists' sneak attacks (although she is saved by Dr. Shamal, the perverted school doctor, before anything can happen to her). Finally, her last appearance in the Kokuyo arc occurs when Tsunayoshi is shot by the Rebuke bullet (a bullet that will show the victim real-time rebukes from people s/he knows); she is shown worrying about Tsuna, and is reassured by her brother that everything will be alright. After this reassurance, Kyoko agrees that Tsuna will return victorious, and has incredible faith in him.

In the Varia arc, Kyoko is shown to have a slightly more prominent role. Here, we see that Ryohei will lie to Kyoko about fighting, because she will be angry and frightened for Ryohei due to their childhood memory (see first paragraph). Initially, while the protagonist's group trains for the upcoming battle, Kyoko merely takes care of Colonnello - another arcobaleno and Ryohei's tutor - bathing him and reading stories to him before bed. However, Kyoko sees Ryohei fighting in the first round of the Ring Battles, and tries to convince him to stop - however, after Ryohei reminds her of the details of his promise (that he would not fight, save for the times that it is necessary for him to fight), she watches Ryohei defeat his opponent and is then pulled away from the group by Colonnello. Later on, Kyoko is told that the fight was in actuality a sumo match, and believes it. Before the final - and Tsunayoshi's - battle, Kyoko gives Tsuna a hand-made charm, believing that he is also participating in the sumo tournament.

Kyoko enters the third arc with a boom - literally. Shot by the 10 year bazooka, Kyoko is sent to the future, right when her future self is about to be killed by one of the Millefiore (antagonistic mafia). However, Tsuna saves her; unfortunately, due to the shock, Kyoko is unable to remember what happened initially, but later on is able to recover the memories. She, along with Haru, help out the protagonist's group by working the household jobs in the underground base - laundering, cooking, cleaning, etc - and both are only given very very little information. At one point, Kyoko runs away to return to her home in hopes of seeing her parents ten years into the future - but, unable to see them, she is nearly caught by the Millefiore, although her best friend of 10 years Hana Kurokawa whisks her away into the latter's house before the Millefiore could find out. Having been given strength by her dearest friend, Kyoko returns to the underground base. She and Haru try and succeed in making friends with Chrome Dokuro, the Mist Guardian of the Vongola, with I-Pin's help. Before the raid of the Millefiore base, Kyoko repairs Tsuna's jacket, adding a pocket for the handmade charm. After the protagonist's group returns from the raid, Kyoko and Haru become increasingly curious about the entire situation, and tries to find out - first, by confronting Tsuna and his group, and then, when that doesn't work, by going on strike until the girls are given the information they want. However, Kyoko feels sorry for her older brother and the rest of the boys, and after listening to Bianchi's speech about men and seeing Chrome's wounds from training, the two girls recant their strike temporarily to aid Tsuna's group. The very next day, Tsuna, believing that Kyoko has run away again, chases her down, only to discover that she is on the way to grocery shopping. During this time, Tsunayoshi confesses everything - from beginning to end - and Kyoko finds out about all of the lies Tsuna's group fed her in order to keep her safe. After a silence, Kyoko accepts the information and gives Tsuna advice about his box weapon. She and Haru, who is given the truth soon after, both do their best to support the boys for the rest of the training period, and are audiences to the final fights. They return to the present safely, ending the arc.

Kyoko has incredibly minor roles in the next two arcs. In the Inheritance arc, she only has a cameo of choosing cakes with Haru, and then in the aftermath of the Inheritance arc, chides her brother for getting into trouble after being "hit by a shooting star" (as Ryohei is still lying to Kyoko about his true activities). In the next arc, Kyoko is often shown with Chrome - first, when Chrome transfers to Namimori-Chuu, then when Chrome is hospitalized, and, a while afterwards, when they are walking to school together and spot a sleeping Tsunayoshi in an empty lot. She, Haru, Chrome and I-Pin fix the handmade charm for Tsuna and return it to him; the last on-screen appearance for Kyoko as of now is when she is going to Tsuna's house with Haru and Chrome, only to be ushered out after seeing numerous people there.

Abilities/Additional Notes:
Kyoko is efficient with cleaning, cooking and sewing! She's a very normal person.

Sample Journal Post:
Haru-chan? [ Kyoko Sasagawa stares in front of her, poised as if she were holding and in the middle of eating something. ]

This isn't the cake shop.. [ The brunette blinks twice, glancing down at the fork that's no longer in her hand, and then turning her head to look around, expression turning more quizzical by the second. The PCD itself is on a ledge of some sort - and she hasn't noticed it yet. ] This isn't Namimori either..
